Folding smartphones have been making big waves in the last few years, and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip is one of our favorites.
The Korean giant is already working hard for the next model that we hope will come in 2022. Here’s everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 so far.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 be released?
There is no official information about the Flip 4 from Samsung yet, but we have seen some rumors about possible dates, and we can look at previous models to give us an estimate.
Some news sites are referring to a Korean tech blogger who said on the country’s social media site Naver that the new model will follow the same release model as the previous models.
But when we look at previous versions of the Galaxy Z Flip, there is no model.
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – Feb 2020
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – August 2021
The leak will most likely refer to the August release date of Flip 3. This is particularly convincing, as Ross Young a screen industry expert, said Samsung began shipping display panels for the Flip 4 in April. This marks the same month that the company began shipping Flip 3 on the same schedule last year.
Interestingly, Samsung has probably ordered 8.7 million panels – more than 5.1 million last year – and expects it to sell more Flips this time around. In May, we heard similar news from The Elec, which said that Samsung had begun mass production of components to produce a total of more than 10 million foldable products, 70% of which were Z Flip 4 models.
One tip seems to be that Samsung has adapted the Flip to launch with the Z Fold models. Flip therefore moved from 1 to 3, as it had to accompany the naming and numbering convention with Fold, which was released before the last Flip.
As of its launch in 2019, the Galaxy Z Fold will usually go on sale in September or late August, as in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Based on this, it seems quite reasonable to assume that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 (and Z Fold 4) will go on sale in August / September 2022.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 cost?
Again, we don’t have confirmed details about the new Flip, so we’ll have to look at previous prices for guidance. That’s how much they cost in the beginning
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – £1,300/€1,349/$1,380
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – £949/$999/€1,049
This drop in prices between the first and second generations is most likely due to lower production costs. As with any first generation product, you usually pay a premium for having the latest technology.
It seems unlikely that Samsung will lower the price even further, as it is certainly one of the flagship phones that is usually priced at £ 1,000 / € 1,000 / $ 1,000 these days.
At the same time, industry expert Ross Young believes that Samsung’s July order for the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 could “see a price reduction” as evidence that last year’s equivalent production was “more than double.” This, of course, brings together both foldable devices, so Fold can be sold at a lower price while Flip stays the same – or Samsung may decide not to lower the price of both.
Will it be the Z Flip 4 or the Flip 4?
An interesting wrinkle this year could change Samsung’s naming convention. The company removed the letter “Z” from the names of its folding models in certain markets without explanation – some believe it could be a response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and sometimes to the “Z” symbol used by the Russian armed forces. .
In any case, there are speculations that the company may completely abandon the letter “Z” and release a new generation of foldable Galaxy Flip 4. There is very little material evidence that any rebranding is on track worldwide.
What new features will we see in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4?
Frankly, we are now in the realm of speculation and rumors that we hope that the news from Samsung will soon be dispelled.
Design
So far, no one expects the Z Flip 4 to be a radical design change from the Flip 3.
This is reflected in the first images of the phone, which we saw in collaboration with 91mobiles. from OnLeaks.

These are just some of the changes. OnLeaks says that with the exception of minor changes in size, the design will be the same as the previous phone: it is now smaller, but 165.1 x 71.9 x 7.2 mm thick.
The pictures show a slightly modified hinge design by Slash Gear, which is in line with the first rumors of a Korean leak, reflecting plans for a lighter chassis and improved hinges; This is good news because it remains one of the potential weaknesses. points of any cover design – and this is one of the few areas where the Z Flip 3 is behind the latest Huawei P50 Pocket.
We also see some evidence of hinge adjustment in the first leaked case images for the phone. These photos, shared by Leaking Ice Universe, definitely reveal something that looks like a thinner hinge.
Otherwise, as mentioned elsewhere, the cut for the external display looks a bit larger than before – otherwise things don’t look very different.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has seen the introduction of IPX8 water resistance, but the same leak speaks to improvements with it. We can only assume that this applies to dust permeability that is not present in Flip 3.

Another important change is the color of the phone. Screen industry expert Ross Young said the phone will be available in four colors: gold, gray, light blue (seen in the pictures) and light purple.
Display
According to the Korean website Elec, Samsung does not change the screens much, or at least does not change the size. According to the site, the internal folding screen will again be 6.7 inches (and OnLeaks agrees), and the external screen will increase slightly from 1.83 inches to 1.9 inches. Leaker Chun predicts the same thing on the outside screen, but says it could be bigger than 2 inches repeated by Ross Young.
Chipset, RAM and memory
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor in the Z Flip 3 could be upgraded to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but as two leaks predicted, the Flip 4 is more likely to use the upcoming 8 Gen 1+: Galox and Ice universe.
More precisely, we saw that the chip appeared in the Geekbench list for Flip 4, which came out under the code name “taro” motherboard.
8 GB of memory and 128/256 GB of memory options will most likely remain the same.
Camera
GSMArena said that Samsung will include a selfie camera at the bottom of the screen, but many prototypes are in active development, and some still have a hole camera aperture. This shows that Samsung is still testing the capabilities of the old approach and checking whether it is ready for prime-time.

Leaker Chun believes that the company has decided against the camera under the screen, but adds that Samsung is considering switching to a triple rear camera this time. However, he warns that “quality [sic] will not increase sharply.”
Battery and charging
Chun was also the first leaker to predict a 10-20% increase in battery size, and other forecasters claim the battery will remain the same size as the Flip 3.
GalaxyClub now reports that the total battery capacity for the Flip 4 is 3400 mAh – a modest 100 mAh increase from the 3300 mAh Flip 3. This knowledge was gained from the discovery of two batteries, the EB-BF721ABY and the EB model code. – It was announced that the new phone will use BF722ABY.
Ice Universe, which leaks regularly, is more optimistic about the battery and predicts a more significant jump to a total capacity of 3,700 mAh.
This corresponds to the phone’s 3C battery certificate with a nominal capacity of 3595 mAh – probably the usual 3700 mAh capacity that Samsung will announce.
At the same time, a separate charger certification with 3C reveals a maximum 25W wired charge – still relatively slow, but a definite improvement over the 15W speed of the Z Flip 3.
It is too early, many of these rumors may change with the development of the device. We’ll update this article as more information becomes available, so be sure to check back to see what Samsung has to offer.
