It’s all good to take game images on your Nintendo Switch console, but if you want to save them on your phone or stream them online for all your friends to see, you can take the images directly from your console to your smart device or computer.
Prior to version 11.0.0, the only way to get images was to publish them on a social platform from the Switch app and download them. Although now there is an easier way

How to share Nintendo Switch screenshots on a smartphone
While Nintendo has an official way to share screenshots over Wi-Fi, it’s not unlimited. You can only share ten screenshots at a time. It also contains lots of QR codes which makes the process quite tedious.
Here are the steps you need to take to transfer the screenshot from Switch to your phone:
- Navigate to the album and select the photo or video you want to share
- Click “A” and click “Submit and Edit.”
Click on “Send to Smart Device”
- To send a single image, select Single Send, or to send ten different photos, select Multiple Send.
- The key will now show the QR code Scan it with your smartphone and the devices will be synced via Wi-Fi
- If you can’t scan the QR code, click the plus button that says ‘There is a problem with the connection’. This will prompt you to connect to the Switch network by entering the provided password.
- Scan the second QR code that appears, which will take you to the download page on your phone.
- Again, if the QR code doesn’t work, click the plus button and enter the URL displayed in your device’s browser.
- The files are then automatically downloaded to your phone, or you can click to download them separately, depending on your device.
- Once all the files have been transferred, click “Finish”
- How to share Nintendo Switch screenshots to a computer or laptop
As long as you have a quality USB-C cable (the cable provided by Nintendo will work with your console), copying screenshots from the Switch to your computer or laptop is much easier than using your phone.
Connect your computer to the Switch with a USB-C cable. It is located at the bottom of the console (manual mode for the main switch)
- Open the Switch system settings, then click “Data Management”, then “Manage Screenshots and Videos”
- Select “Copy to PC with USB Connection”. Your computer may wait a short time until it recognizes the console
- After confirming that the Switch is connected to your computer, click on the ‘Nintendo Switch’ icon under ‘My Computer’.
- Click on “Album”
- Folders will show games with screenshots / videos.
- Click on the desired folder and copy the images to the local computer’s memory. repeat if necessary
- When done, unplug the cable and the Switch will confirm that you are no longer connected to your computer. You can use a similar method to transfer photos to a microSD card.
- How to share Nintendo Switch screenshots on social media
If you want to share screenshots on your social platforms, you can do it without downloading them to your phone or computer.
Nintendo allows you to link some of your social profiles to your account. However, it only supports Facebook and Twitter.
- Navigate to the album and select the photo or video you want to share
- Click “A” and click “Submit and Edit.”
- Click ‘Post’
- Choose to place the image individually or multiple times – you can select up to four images for each post
- Choose which profile posts – different social accounts can be combined in each profile
- Select the social account you want to send – your social accounts must be linked to your Nintendo account for this to work.
- Edit text – some (e.g. Twitter) automatically generate hashtags, but you can edit them
- Click on “Send on Twitter / Facebook”
