Xiaomi 12 Everything you need to know

Xiaomi has finally introduced the Xiaomi 12 series, the latest flagship phone set, globally. The phones, which first went on sale in China in December, are now available in the rest of the world.

The company promised to release the “first” phones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, but Motorola unexpectedly defeated Xiaomi with the Moto Edge X30. Xiaomi 12 took second place with a more powerful Xiaomi 12 Pro and a more affordable 12X.

Note that this is not a Mi 12, but a Xiaomi 12 – we’ll explain why – but it’s still a successor to last year’s Mi 11. These are some of the best phones of 2022, and this is before they reach the more powerful Xiaomi. In 2022, 12 Ultras are expected.

In India, the Xiaomi 12 Pro was unveiled on April 27, but there is no official announcement yet about the 12 or 12X.

Note that Xiaomi has not yet officially introduced its phones in the United States, so this presentation does not include North America.

So far, Xiaomi has introduced three phones: Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro and 12X. These aren’t all the phones we’ve been waiting for in the series – at least we’ll finally see the expanded 12 Ultra, and various other leaks have pointed to the 12 Lite, 12 Mini, 12X Pro and both 12S. and 12S Pro.

We currently know a lot about the 12 Ultra, which is scheduled to launch in the 3rd quarter of 2022, i.e. in July, August or September, but we also know that Xiaomi will officially launch its first Leica camera phone in July. It may be Ultra, but other rumors suggest that the first two 12S phones arrived.

Xiaomi 12

Xiaomi has abolished the Mi brand (which is also used only outside China) to simplify branding. As a result, the new flagship is only the Xiaomi 12.

“Starting in the third quarter of 2021, Xiaomi’s Mi product line will be renamed Xiaomi. This change will strengthen our global brand presence and close the perception gap between the brand and its products,” the company said in a statement. It may take some time for this change to take effect in all regions. ”

What are the features of Xiaomi 12?

Now that Xiaomi has announced a few phones from the series, we have specific features for them – plus some leaks and rumors pointing to the 12 Ultra features. We parted according to the model

Xiaomi 12

The most notable aspect of the Xiaomi 12 is that although the Pro is larger, if you prefer such things, it is smaller than any flagship in the series, thanks to the transition to a relatively small 6.28-inch screen.

Xiaomi 12

Due to its small size, it weighs only 180 grams, and you can get it in black, blue or pink – plus an additional green vegan leather option for China.

The compact screen is still an AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz and support for a fingerprint scanner on the display, plus the Gorilla Glass Victus above to prevent scratches.

As expected, inside the phone you will find the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in China with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of memory. In the UK, both memory SKUs are available with only 8 GB of RAM.

Despite the phone’s compact size, its battery is 4500 mAh and supports 67W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless support.

Finally, a very important camera. The main lens, 50Mp Sony IMX766 – 2.0μm large pixel 1 / 1.56-inch sensor and OIS – lower resolution than last year’s main camera, but can still give superior results. In addition, you will find a 13Mp ultra wide and 50mm equivalent 5Mp telemacro camera, which is very similar to what we saw in the Mi 11.

Like all phones in the series, Xiaomi 12 has Android 12 and MIUI 13 installed.
